Regarding the chaotic insect-catching situation in villages near Mount Daming in Wuming County, Nanning City, Guangxi Province, on July 13, 2016, volunteer Lei Ping from the Firefly Ecological Line conducted a field investigation of Mount Daming and surrounding villages. She subsequently addressed the findings in open letters to the Forestry Bureaus of Liangjiang Town and Wuming County.(related article: https://pingecology.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=2005&action=edit

 

Finally(2016), on August 22, we saw the following photos and information on the WeChat public account of Mount Daming in Guangxi:

      1. Foresters at Mount Daming conducting field surveys on wild insects:
      2. Strengthening patrols at each forest fire station to ensure no incidents of capturing fireflies and other insects within the protected area.
      3. Law enforcement officers educating villagers engaged in illegal insect capture: (Confiscating illegally captured insects from villagers
      4. Strengthening communication with part-time forest guards at each forest fire station to gather community-related information, promptly reporting any purchasing points to the local government for crackdown.
      5. Posting notices in surrounding communities and villages prohibiting illegal poaching, reminding villagers to abide by the law and protect flora and fauna.    
      6. Reducing artificial lighting facilities along mountain roads to enhance the flashing signals used by male and female fireflies for communication, facilitating successful mating and reproduction.

    Insects are the original inhabitants of the Earth, and together with plants, fish, birds, and mammals, they form a colorful world. The ecological environment must not be destroyed; life is diverse and wonderful. Thanks to those who work tirelessly for the ecological protection of Mount Daming, and to those who protect life and safeguard local natural ecosystems.
