Body length 10-13 mm, pronotum pink ; light organs almost entirely occupying ventrites 6 & 7 in male. Female resembles male, but light organ only covers ventrite 6. In larva, each tergite bears 4 sharp projections from the posterior margin.
Distribution:
Widely distributed along natural streams at all elevations.

April to October
Other information:
Male seldom flies, and stays on plants growing along stream channels. Display simple pulsation flash when stimulated by light signal. Pulsation frequency 7.8Hz. Active all night. Larva predates on other insects along stream channels.
